Ready to control a car's navigation system with a handheld game? For those who often feel they are competing against their in-vehicle navigation system to get to their desired destination, Toyota has a new tool that may help you beat the voice that lives in your dashboard. The Japanese automaker has teamed up with Nintendo to turn the Nintendo DS into navigational remote control that allows users to set destinations, map out routes, and even get sightseeing information. Dubbed the Kuruma de DS, the game card is Bluetooth-enabled for easy pairing of the handheld game with the vehicle’s navigation system, according to a Kotaku report . The interface features Nintendo Mii characters and even sports a speedometer

The Fisker Karma (Credit: Fisker Automotive) Fisker Automotive received worrying news last week when a Karma sedan burned in a house fire in Texas. The cause is still being investigated, according to the company. The fire started shortly after a new Karma owner parked the car in a garage, according to a report in Autoweek . A fire investigator told Autoweek that the Karma, which was not plugged in, was the origin of the fire, but the cause was not known. Fisker released a statement saying that the electric car’s battery pack was intact and “does not appear to be a contributing factor in this incident.” The Fisker Karma is a luxury sports car that runs on electric motors and has a gasoline engine to extend the driving range

(Credit: General Motors) The Chevy Volt will restart production “earlier than previously planned” due to an uptick in demand, General Motors announced earlier this week, but will this help to quiet critics? The plug-in hybrid electric vehicle had been slated for a five-week production suspension, but that will be cut to four weeks, according to a report in the Detroit Free Press. This is “due to increased Volt sales since January and the need to meet demand in our strong markets, including California,” GM said in a statement, according to the Free Press. The Volt came under withering criticism from some in the media when GM suspended production in March. And the car’s creator, Bob Lutz, has been battling in the blog trenches to educate critics (though he has become more than a little exasperated at the relentlessness of the attacks).
