The battery pack on the Tesla Roadster (Credit: CNET) If you’ve invested over $100,000 into a Tesla Roadster, you might want to sign up for an alert to avoid your battery dying. Electric car blogs have been buzzing today over a report about a potential problem with Tesla Motor’s electric cars that could turn an expensive battery pack into a “brick.” The Understatement blog said that five Roadster owners had their battery charges go to zero and that the only recourse was to replace the $40,000 battery pack. In the one case cited, the batteries died after six weeks of being idle and in another when an extension cord didn’t provide sufficient power. The primary source for the bricked battery anecdotes appears to be a Tesla service manager. In response, Tesla issued a statement indicating that it is possible to run a battery completely down but it takes counter measures to avoid a zero battery “in virtually all instances.” The company noted that all batteries are prone to damage if left at zero charge for long periods of time

VW's Amarok pickup is perhaps the best transportation bargain in El Salvador We’ll be the first to admit that, like smoked beer or steak tartar, Alex Roy is an acquired taste. He may come across as arrogant, but only because he really has been there and done that, with the t-shirt to prove it. We’ll also admit to being a bit skeptical about his latest J.F Musial-inspired mission, but it didn’t take long for this video to suck us in. When it comes to road trips, we prefer ours north of the border.

Saabophiles, take heart: there is a chance, albeit a small one, that your beloved automaker could be sold to BMW. To preface this, it’s semi-important to have a little backstory on the current state of Saab. Last December, the Swedish automaker filed for bankruptcy, and it’s now up to the appointed receivers to determine how to make the most money for creditors. Option one is to sell the business piece by piece, which will net the most cash and presents the fewest problems.

(Credit: Ferrari) Ferrari just rolled out a short teaser video announcing the dawning of “a new era of extreme V-12 cars.” Speculation around the ‘Net indicates that the Italian automaker will be pulling the wraps off of the successor to its 599 grand tourer: the F620 GT. Expect the new vehicle to carry its V-12 engine–possibly sourced from or based on the V-12 that powers the Ferrari FF shooting brake –up front and under an elongated hood. Like the 599 it aims to replace, the new model will probably also send its power exclusively to the rear-axle. And if this is, in fact, the “most powerful Ferrari ever” as the video claims, it’ll also have to output more than the Ferrari 599 GTO’s 661-horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, but we’re unsure by how much. (Of course, we’re guessing that Ferrari’s not counting the 720-horsepower 599XX in it’s “most powerful” claim, as that limited-run race car wasn’t exactly street legal .) Check out the video below to hear the V-12 engine sing as the camouflaged vehicle is taken for a test run.
